Mjolnir was an exceptionally powerful weapon used by Thor, primarily to fight giants and then ultimately destroy the Midgard Serpent at the Battle of Ragnarok. Only functional when one is equipped with the belt and gloves, these artifacts are far more ancient than the mythology that immortalized them and the people who subsequently hid them around the world. Norse myth focused solely on Mjolnir’s destined role in slaying Jarmungandr, but it conveniently overlooked the fact that Mjolnir is also the only means by which the Midgard Serpent could be released in the first place.
