About this item

New Thors hammer in January 2016

Reproduction hammer found in Northern Iceland. This is a reproduction of the famous hammer from Foss, Iceland. According to the sagas, Thor mainly used his hammer in battles against trolls and other enemies of the gods. In pagan times, people often wore such small symbols of Thor with a hammer on their person for good luck. This design is often considered a combination of a cross and Thor’s hammer, a special Icelandic design from the period when Christianity gained favor over pagan practices. The original is in the National Museum in Iceland.
