About this item

A reproduction of a hammer found in North Iceland. This is a reproduction of the famous hammer from Foss, Iceland. According to the sagas, Thor primarily used his hammer in battles against trolls and other enemies of the gods.

In pagan times people often carried such small symbols of Thor with his hammer about their person for good luck. This design is often considered to be a combination of a cross and Thor’s hammer, a special Icelandic design from the period when Christianity gained favor over pagan practices. The original is at the National Museum in Iceland.
